Hi! I'm Justin D. Reamy, a vocal coach with a studio based in the theater district of New York City, available to coach virtual lessons no matter where you are located! THE STORY
SO FAR
PHASE ONE
2004, after finding a passion for music in high school with extensive training and ambition to accomplish goals, I climbed the vocal performance scene. State-wide and nationally ranked; I was a recognized record-breaking singer in my community. After touring with composers as a vocal demonstrator, I knew I wanted to teach and coach people full-time for a living.
In 2007, I attended Westminster Choir College, in Princeton, studying Music Education where I started to form my own pedagogy and ideology of vocal science. Being called a 'prodigy' by the head of the education depart, Dr. Abrahams. After gaining the momentum and confidence in who I was as a teacher - I took theses philosophies to New York City!
PHASE TWO
While being a full time resident in the Big Apple in 2010 - I honed my coaching technique by studying Theater, becoming more well-rounded as an instructor. Immediately after schooling, I was hired as a Artist Director for a private school in New York City, developing their after-school program and theater performance program. During that time, I built a small studio of private vocal students, which ultimately lead me to my first foundation of students.
My first student from that original foundation was offered a Broadway contract in the revival of Les Miserable. The thrill of having my first accolade and seeing the joy and accomplishment in my student was the moment I knew I was in the right field! After that, recommendations flooded in! Casting directors reached out to me, acknowledging the preparation and work that went into my students. They realized the actors they wanted to hire had a common denominator on their resume: me.
PHASE THREE
From 2010-2020 JDR Vocal Studios has had over 200 working professionals in the industry. Film, Television, Stage, Coachella, Madison Square Garden, The Rose Bowl, YoungArts Winners, Emmy Award Winners, Tony-Nominated Actors - there was an epic influx of talent and drive that has gone into building our little space in New York. Luckily, I had been teaching students all over the world virtually. So virtual-lessons was a skill set I had mastered way before I needed. Covid-19 didn't stop us! We grew! We used the time as a 'technique pressure cooker' opportunity - and what a great use of time!
2022, I was immediately greeted with a student getting a dream Broadway contract and another who is entering a popular series on HBO! Things are looking good - you ready to be a part of Phase Four? Let me know!
